Ordinary Time #2: – Readings

This weekend we began a new series entitled big story/big idea. Our goal through this series is to discover/rediscover the main story behind the Bible and with it discover the main idea found throughout the whole of Scripture. Of course the Bible is a big book. It consists of 66 books written over 1500 years by numerous authors in a variety of locations. In addition, all of the books of the Bible are different from one another. Some of them are historical accounts, others are books of poetry and song, there are letters and then are those books that are prophetic and apocalyptic. This mixture of type and style makes the already large task of understanding Scripture even more challenging.
Let me encourage you to review the weekly readings that we provided here. Some of these passages we will discuss during our worship time on Saturday. Others are simply there to expose you to a wide range of Holy Writ. Keep these four themes in mind as you read these Scriptures: DELIVERANCE – COMMUNITY – KNOWLEDGE – BLESSING. All of Scripture can be understood through one or all of these themes which together serve as a lens or grid through which we can understand Scripture more effectively. We’ll discuss these more and more as the weeks progress.
Here are the readings for this week:
Psalm • Psalm 32
Old Testament • Genesis 1-3, II Samuel 11:26-12:15
Gospel • Luke 7:36-50
New Testament • Galatians 2:11-21
